AFSA Board Member since September 2019

South Australian Committee Chair since 2018

Stephen, with partner Sue, live 5 kms south west of Auburn in the Clare Valley (SA) where they operate Agvance Rural Services Pty Ltd.  The business offers deep ripping, fertiliser spreading, spraying, seeding, hay cutting and baling, windrowing, and grain harvesting contract services to dryland broad-acre cropping operations, with some vineyard clients also.

Stephen has been a member of AFSA and on the SA Committee for many years, and has also been involved in establishing the Grain Harvester’s Assoc, the Crop Sprayer’s Assoc in SA and has also been instrumental in the development of fodder care with AFIA.

After some encouragement from Neil, Stephen joined the AFSA Board at the 2019 AGM and looks forward to bringing some of his past experiences to the management of AFSA.

Where do you see the fertiliser industry, in particular the services sector, in the next 10 years?

“I see them as being pretty tough, with fallout from the drought surrounding cash flows and an ongoing squeeze on margins for contractors.

A challenge will be recruiting new, younger generation members whilst still appealing to older members at the same time and the ongoing work around compliance and risk management will all need careful consideration”
